The List Goes On…

Since starting our business, the never-ending lists keeps growing. It seems like day after day, there is another task to complete — another hoop to jump through — just to make it to tomorrow. But that’s the beauty of creating, isn’t it? Though it’s proven to be a challenging thing, this thing we call entrepreneurship, it’s also been highly rewarding. One highly rewarding experience so far has been teaching the ASD (special education) students at a local elementary school! During the school year, we are contracted to come teach music and theatre to multiple classes in multiple grades. One of the classes we had the privilege of teaching was an ASD classroom full of the sweetest kids! Though it can sometimes be difficult to connect to a child (or adult) with cognitive challenges when you have so little time with them, it’s amazing when a connection is felt and a bond is forged. That’s what happened with our founder, Cindy, when she taught in this ASD classroom. These students would get so excited to see her coming because they knew what was coming and knew the instruments they wanted. They had a routine of dancing, freehand instrument experimentation, and rhythm exercises. Their enthusiasm for music kept their desire to learn and be involved genuine and strong which, in turn, kept Cindy wanting to give them her best every time she was with them. So even though beginnings can be rough, and the never-ending list grows daily, it’s the goal at the end that keeps us motivated to push through all of the nitty-gritty so students can have the best experiences with The Creative Outlet, and ultimately great experiences with music itself.
